To help save it, a show of support has been called for, via email.

My letter to them

Dr. Offenmueller,

The Spanish Riding School is a living library of equestrian art. With its highly skilled riders and trainers following a method evolved over centuries, we are able to witness exceptional feats by the famed white stallions. They continue to set the standard to which FEI competition horses aspire.

The possible loss of this wondrous institution would be a loss not only to equestrians worldwide, but to any lovers of classical art. The performances bring forth harmony and beauty so magnificently that non-equestrians are moved to a sense of awe at the glories before them.

Please take whatever steps that will ensure the full survival of the SRS and its associated breeding facilities.

The Spanish Riding School (SRS), guardian of Classical Dressage for over 400 years, and the White Stallions made famous by Disney’s Miracle of the White Stallions are in peril. The Austrian government decided to end their financial support for this classical art forcing the SRS to become self-supporting. The politically appointed business manager had doubled the performances without increasing the number of horses who are between the ages of 10 – mid 20’s. During the Menorca holiday season the towns come alive with the fiestas. The Spanish passion for horses is brought to life enliven with celebrations of music, costume and jubilation, a spectacle that you should not miss on your Menorca holidays.

Every year Menorca becomes a country of colour and celebration during the national public holidays in Menorca and the summer fiesta season. The annual cycle of Menorca holidays and fiestas begins with the Festival of Sant Joan towards the end of June, in the town of Ciutadella. This festival weekend is the largest of the island’s celebrations with towns around the countryside hosting their own regional versions throughout the Menorcan holiday season.

On June the 23rd, the locals (and visitors from across the island) pour out from their Menorca villas in their thousands for days of dance and procession in the Ciutadella streets under strings of lights and paper bunting. The Spanish passion for horses is brought to life in a series of horse trials and parades, leading up to tests of riding skill. The first studfarm of Menorquina horses in the Netherlands! With great pride, we would like to introduce these beautiful horses to you.   On this website, in addition to an introduction and explanation of our stud farm, you will learn more about our vision, our horses and everything that we are able to facilitate.

 

You will also find invaluable and fascinating information about Menorquina horses, also known as Menorquín or Pura Raza Menorquina (P.R.M.). By clicking on the “The breed” tab, you will find a description of the Menorquina breed along with additional information on how these horses are used in Menorca and about their identity.

 

One of our main objectives is to help you become more familiar with the Minorcan breed, along with improving the breed, we are therefore already pleased that you are visiting our website.
